Senior Backend Engineer

Position Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Clutch Security, you will be at the core of our engineering team, architecting and building the robust services that power our security platform. You will design and implement high-performance APIs, infrastructure for efficient data ingestion, complex business logic for policy evaluation, and scalable asynchronous workflows. Your work will directly enable our customers to secure their non-human identities through a seamless and powerful experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services using FastAPI, and GraphQL.
• Develop and maintain our extensible integration framework to support robust integrations with SaaS and cloud providers, as well as on-prem and custom data sources.
• Architect and optimize robust background task pipelines using Celery and Redis for handling security events and high-volume data processing.
• Implement complex logic for data transformation (using DuckDB), security policy evaluation, and specialized engines (like our Secrets Verifier and Regex Engine).
• Maintain and improve internal tooling to ensure code reuse, consistency, and performance across the platform, and to speed up common operational tasks.
• Design and optimize data schemas and queries using PostgreSQL & Iceberg.
• Partner with product and frontend teams to deliver high-quality features, while ensuring reliability through comprehensive testing and code reviews.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in backend engineering roles, with Python or a similar programming language.
• Extensive experience working with at least one major cloud provider and designing cloud-first architectures.
• Experience building robust event-driven systems and microservices, including monitoring and alerting.
• Experience at an early stage startup, ability to handle frequent priority changes and context switching without slowing down.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional teamwork skills, a true team player.
• Bonus: Experience with security platforms and/or identity management.
